What is the Turku Cultural Guest programme?
The Turku Cultural Guest programme is a service for families receiving preventive family support services. It is provided by the City of Turku's Cultural Services and the Wellbeing Services County of Southwest Finland. The aim of the programme is to support parenting, strengthen family interaction and bring joy to everyday life through culture, especially during challenging times.
Families participating in the programme receive a free cultural invitation from their family worker. The invitation gives them access to a range of cultural events and activities. The programme promotes easy access to arts and culture and provides opportunities for social interaction and peer support through group activities. The Turku Cultural Guest programme is designed to bring joy and enriching experiences to everyday life.
Who is the Turku Cultural Guest programme intended for?
A family worker assesses which families would benefit most from the programme. The family worker also recommends cultural activities suitable for the age of the family's children.
A cultural invitation may be granted, for example, when a family experiences a lack of positive shared activities, loneliness, parental exhaustion, or challenges in family interaction. The Turku Cultural Guest programme does not replace other forms of support. Rather, it serves as an additional tool within preventive family services. Early support and prevention are at the heart of the programme.
Where can Cultural Guests go?
With their cultural invitation, families can participate free of charge in open arts activities at the Children's Cultural Centre Färi, visit exhibitions at the Turku City’s museums, and participate in selected children's concerts and events organised by the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra.
The Turku City Library also offers a diverse range of cultural activities for children and families participating in the Turku Cultural Guest programme.
