From 6 October 2026, using the City of Turku’s eVaka online service for early childhood education and care will become even more convenient. You will now be able to receive eVaka notifications directly on your phone.
eVaka operates in a web browser, so there is no need to download a separate application. The feature is available on both Android and iOS devices (iPhone and iPad). By enabling notifications, you will receive prompt updates about new messages, decisions, and other important information.
What is changing?
Important information about your child’s early childhood education and care will appear as notifications on your phone. For example, you will receive a notification when:
- the day care centre sends a message or notice
- attendance bookings are missing or a holiday-period survey is about to close
- a new event is added to the calendar
- you need to book a discussion time or the booked time is approaching
- you receive a new decision or document.
When you tap the notification, eVaka opens directly to the relevant item, such as the message or calendar. Email notifications will continue to work as before. On the Personal information page, you can choose for each notification type whether you want to receive it by email, on your phone, through both channels or not at all.
How to enable the feature
Android phone
- If you have already added eVaka to your home screen, remove the old icon.
- Open eVaka in the Chrome browser at evaka.turku.fi and sign in.
- Tap “Add eVaka to home screen” when eVaka suggests it. You can also select “Install app” or “Add to Home screen” from the browser menu.
- Open eVaka using the icon on the home screen.
- Tap “Enable” and allow notifications when your phone asks for permission.
We recommend using the Chrome browser on Android phones. In other browsers, the activation steps may differ from these instructions, or the browser may display a warning when eVaka is added to the home screen.
Iphone or Ipad
- If you have already added eVaka to your home screen, remove the old icon.
- Open eVaka in the Safari browser at evaka.turku.fi and sign in.
- Tap the Share icon in the browser.
- Scroll down in the Share menu and select “Add to Home Screen”. Then tap “Add”.
- Open eVaka using the new icon on the home screen and sign in again.
- Tap “Enable” and allow notifications when your phone asks for permission.
Note: On iPhone, notifications work only when you use eVaka via the home screen icon. Notifications do not work if you use eVaka in a Safari tab.
Test the notifications by tapping “Send test notification”. You can also find the instructions and notification settings later on the Personal information page.
