Relax at the beach
You can swim all year round in Turku at beaches. The City of Turku maintains nine beatches and three swimming places. In a coastal city you can also take a dip into the sea during winter. Winter swimming places are maintained by outside service providers for the City of Turku.
During summertime the beaches of Ekvalla, Ispoinen and Ruissalo Saaronniemi are supervised. Uinti Turku ry is responsible for beach surveillance at all sites.
Good to know before you swim
There are no limitations for using the beaches.

A warm summer has increased bacterial infections among people in the Baltic Sea region. The Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) reminds people that swimming is not advisable if the skin is broken or injured.
A warm summer has increased infections in humans caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Vibrio in the Baltic Sea. The infections are most commonly skin infections acquired through wounds. The bacteria can also cause outer ear infections in swimmers and, if ingested, mild gastrointestinal illness.
Marine water-borne infections caused by Vibrio bacteria can be dangerous especially for people whose immune systems are weakened due to illness or long-term medication. These individuals should be particularly cautious about swimming in the Baltic Sea during the summer if they have broken skin or other wounds.
