The transport of people and goods causes costs, climate emissions and noise, as well as congestion and dangerous situations.
Transports are put out to tender and managed in various administrative silos, which increases costs and underutilises transport capacity.
The aim is to identify, together with transport organisers, opportunities for improving and optimising transport and reducing emissions. The measure utilises a mobility portal developed by Vinka Oy, which can be used to simulate and, if necessary, even operate both passenger and logistics transports. The scenarios drawn up at the end of the measure indicate which transports could be combined and under what conditions centralised transport management could operate in Turku and more widely in Southwest Finland. In the future, the information will be utilised in logistics and passenger transport planning and competitive tendering.
The measure is implemented by Vinka Oy, the City of Turku and Turku University of Applied Sciences. Partners include: Turku food aid operators, Ekotori, Wellbeing Services County Varha and Regional Council of Southwest Finland.
