Hobbies during and after the school day
Primary school pupils in grades 1-9 can participate in a variety of free hobby groups and clubs connected to the school day.
Activities are organized at schools and in nearby locations before and after the school day, including as part of the Finnish model for leisure activities. The range of activities is selected based on surveys conducted among children and young people, as well as the wishes of the schools.
Registration for hobby groups for the 2026-2027 school year

Registration for the clubs is done either through your school's teacher or electronically via the hobby timetable. Many clubs offer online registration, which opens on 1 September in hobby timetable.

Join a hobby group
All pupils in Turku's basic education schools can participate in the free clubs and hobby groups organized by the City of Turku. The clubs are primarily intended for pupils of the school where they are offered.
Activities for primary school pupils include for example sports, dance, visual arts, crafts, game programming, music and board games. Lower secondary school pupils can take part in activities such as gym training and cultural hobbies.
The groups operate during the schools' working terms and are not held during school holidays. The availability of groups varies from school to school. Some activities run throughout the entire school year, while others are offered for shorter periods.
The activities are funded through the Finnish Model for Leisure Activities state grant, club funding provided by the Finnish National Agency for Education, and funding from the City of Turku.
