A large hobby event for children and young people and their guardians will be held in Varissuo on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, from 5 to 7 p.m. The event will showcase the area’s range of hobbies and leisure activities and highlight the benefits of taking part in hobbies. Journalists are also warmly welcome to attend and learn more about the leisure opportunities available to children and young people in the Varissuo area. A Monetra interpreting service will be available at the event, providing interpretation in Albanian, Arabic and Kurdish/Sorani. The event is organized by the City of Turku in cooperation with Novo Nordisk and the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA). The event is supported by the Move For Fun programme and the Cities for Better Health Turku collaboration.

There is a wide range of leisure activities available for children and young people in the Varissuo area. The Hobby Evening brings together local activity providers for an engaging and inspiring event. Children and young people of all ages, together with their guardians, are welcome to attend the free Hobby Evening. The aim of the event is to familiarize families with the hobby opportunities available in the area and to help children and young people find activities that suit them in their free time. Meaningful leisure activities promote wellbeing, strengthen a sense of community, and support the growth and development of children and young people. The event aims to lower the threshold for participation and help children, young people and families find suitable activities close to home. During the evening, visitors can explore the diverse range of hobbies available in the area, meet instructors, and experience the joy of doing things together. The event provides information about sports, cultural activities, and other hobbies, while also offering an opportunity to meet local organizations and activity providers, ask questions about different hobbies and discover new ways to spend free time. The Hobby Evening is a great opportunity to find your own thing or to try something new in an easy and welcoming environment. Turku-born professional boxer Serwa Palani will also be attending the event as a sporting role model, inspiring children and young people to get active.
