The Turku Tramway is a comprehensive urban development project that defines the development of Turku and the urban region over decades.
Tramway reports and plans
At its meeting on 18 May 2026, the City Council decided that a 12-kilometre tramway will be built from the harbour to Varissuo via the city centre and Kupittaa.
The decision is conditional on securing central government funding in the next MAL negotiations.
The implementation planning and possible construction of the Turku tramway will be carried out by the Turku Tramway Alliance, which includes Turun Raitiotie Oy, the City of Turku, NRC Group Finland Oy, GRK Suomi Oy, Ramboll Finland Oy and Sweco Finland Oy. Turun Raitiotie Oy is a company owned by the City of Turku, which is the principal contractor responsible for the implementation plan phase of the tramway.
