The Cultural Waterfront brings together the diverse culture found along the banks of the Aura River, from the Old Town to Linnanniemi.
The riverfront is what makes Turku, Turku. The Aura River and its surrounding waterfront areas are Turku’s most attractive destination and a key part of the development of the city’s expanding centre.
An inviting urban space brimming with art and events
Art, events, food culture and urban nature come together in the historic landscape of the Aura River embankment. Culture flourishes not only in major cultural venues and independent initiatives, but also through the activities of the city’s residents themselves.
Cultural venues along the riverbank include the Art House Turku, Turku Music Centre Fuuga, the City Theatre, Culture Factory Manilla, Forum Marinum, the library, as well as several significant museums and galleries. These cultural attractions are complemented by numerous festivals and other events throughout the year.
Through collaboration between local organisations, Turku’s riverfront is becoming Finland’s largest and most surprising cultural hub – a place where there is always something happening and where everyone can discover something new to experience.
The Cultural Waterfront Partnership Network
- The aim of the Cultural Waterfront collaboration is to make the area’s diverse cultural offering, events and services more visible and accessible than ever before.
- The project, coordinated by the City of Turku, strengthens multi-disciplinary collaboration between organisations along the riverfront.
- The project will establish a cooperation network aimed at mobilising organisations along the riverbank and engaging them in long-term development.
- The Cultural Waterfront cooperation network project is a development project co-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
