Did you know that Turku offers many free activities that are perfect for families with children? Discover these experiences that won't break the bank.

Scavenger hunt by the river

Can you find the little statues in their hiding places?

There are several cultural exercise routes in the centre of Turku, and the Statue Spotting route is a particular favourite with children.

The aim of the Statue Spotting route is to find the miniature sculptures lurking on the riverside. The route runs between Martinsilta Bridge and Turku Castle, and is two kilometres long.

A paper map of the cultural exercise route can be picked up at the library and an electronic map can be found in the free Citynomadi app by searching for "cultural exercise".

Take a break at the library

At the beautiful Turku City Library, your imagination will fly! Grab a storybook, a comic book or a board game, and sit down on the sofas to spend time together.

The youth section Stoori and the children's section Saaga also organise lots of guided, free activities for families: storytimes, clubs, exhibitions, crafts and theme days.

There are also toys in the children's section. Children's favourite book characters can be seen in the sets embedded in the floor and shelves. Can you find them all?

Farm life at Kuralan Kylämäki

Want to go back in time? Kuralan Kylämäki Village is a free cultural recreation area and a living history village for the whole family.

During the summer and during events at Kylämäki Village, you can learn about everyday life on a 1950s farm with the help of a hostess, and test your handicraft skills in workshops.

The collection in Kylämäki Village belongs to the Turku Museum Centre's educational collection. This allows visitors to touch and experiment: they can sit on chairs, leaf through magazines and play with toys.

The village is undoubtedly at its best in the summer, when the buildings are open and you can spot chickens, cows and sheep in the courtyard and search for hidden caches with a map. However, the outdoor area is open for self-guided tours all year round.

Tour of your favourite parks and playgrounds

How many playgrounds can you visit in one day? With 150 playgrounds in the parks of Turku, there's plenty to choose from.

A favourite of many families with children is the Adventure Park Seikkis in Kupittaa. Seikkis is a paradise for kids, where you can climb, bounce, climb, play and move around. In the summer heat, the stream running through the park is a delight.

Other popular playgrounds include the Moomin-themed Vilkkilänmäki playground in Martti, the accessible Naulatehtaanpuisto playground in Uittamo and the Turjanpuisto playground in Vasaramäki, where children have chosen the play equipment.
