The city's goal is to enable smooth and diverse mobility by several means of transport. The aim is to make the travel chains of city residents and visitors as efficient as possible and intuitive all year round.
Mobility points are a central part of the journeys of both residents and visitors. The mobility points combine different modes of transport and mobility services, such as trains, buses, taxis, and bicycles. These points serve as departure, end, and transfer points for travel chains, thus being important factors in the travel experience. Especially in the area of larger mobility points, there are a wide range of services that are not only mobility services.
The Scale-Up project promotes the implementation of mobility points in the Turku region in cooperation with the Regional Council of Southwest Finland. Functional mobility points improve the user experience of public transport and facilitate the planning of travel chains that best suit travel needs at any given time. In the project, experiments will be used to develop the services of large station points, such as the future Travel Centre, i.e. the current bus station. Turku bus station is developing the following services, among others: luggage storage, guidance and visibility of platforms in the dark. The Regional Council of Southwest Finland is developing travel chains in Loimaa with a city bike trial (article in Finnish) and in Uusikaupunki with regard to the call-in traffic service.
The experiences gained from the measure will be utilised in the development of future travel chains and mobility points. The experiences will be useful, for example, in the implementation of significant mobility points in Kupittaa and the Port, as well as in the preparation of regional future plans.
