The Children's Cultural Centre in Kupittaanpuisto Park in Turku has been given its own name. Previously known as the Children's Cultural Centre Adventure Park, the new name will be Children's Cultural Centre Färi. The name of the playground area will remain Seikkailupuisto.
A separate name was chosen for the Children's Cultural Centre in Kupittaanpuisto, because the identity of the activity, which is part of a national network of children's cultural centres, is to be clarified and become better known among children, families and professionals.
The activities, services and opening hours of the Children's Cultural Centre are often mistakenly confused with the Adventure Park playground area. The park area and the maintenance of the play equipment are still the responsibility of the Turku Urban Environment Department. It is hoped that a separate name will also clarify the situation in this respect.
The name change does not affect the operation or location of the Children's Cultural Centre. The City of Turku will continue to be responsible for its operation, and from the beginning of 2025 it will be under the responsibility of the Cultural Promotion Department. Previously, the Children's Culture Centre was part of the City's Youth Services.
The choice of the new name was made in a three-stage process involving extensive cooperation with children, staff and stakeholders. First, children came up with name suggestions in workshops. Based on feedback from staff and name criteria, four of the most promising options were selected for further development. The final name was chosen by a panel of stakeholders. Finally, the name was tested with children of different ages and in the city's networks
Marika Leinonen-Vainio, Executive Director of the Children's Cultural Centre, says that the name "Färi" feels good and appropriate, as it nicely describes the diverse range of art activities.
- In a nice way, Färi is a Turku-based name that stays in your mind and feels close to you.
