The City of Turku conducts a leisure time survey, which maps out the way in which leisure time is spent and how it could be improved. The survey is aimed at children and young people in preschool, basic education, and upper secondary education. The survey is open until April 30.
The leisure time survey, conducted during February–April, aims at collecting current information about how children and young people spend their leisure time, what hobbies they have, what factors affect hobby activities, the expenses of having hobbies, and physical activity. The survey is meant for the guardians of children in preschool and basic education as well as for students in upper secondary education.
– We want to invest in children’s and young people’s active leisure time, because we know that it affects their well-being positively. At the same time, we invest in the future of the entire city, Deputy Mayor of Children and Young People Elina Rantanen states.
The results will help improve services
The results of the leisure time survey will be used to improve the planning of schools’ club activities, outreach hobby activities, youth work, and leisure time services as well as safe and active school transportations.
– We conduct the survey every four years. By doing so, we can monitor the effects that our implemented changes have, and we get a picture of the current use of the leisure time of children and young people, Development Manager Annakaisa Niiles describes.
You can influence only by answering
The survey is sent out to the guardians of preschoolers via the eVaka system, and to the guardians of pupils in basic education via the Wilma system. Students in upper secondary education are encouraged to answer the survey on their own, also through a link sent in the Wilma system.
This year’s survey also has questions related to school transportation.
– It is very important that as many people answer the survey as possible. It only takes a few minutes to answer. With the answers, we are able to create leisure time services and environments that reflect what the children and young people want, and to develop our services according to the needs of the users, Niiles appeals.
The survey is open from February 26 to April 30, 2026, and answering is anonymous. Anyone who answers can also choose to take part in a lottery, where the price is Finnkino’s gift cards. The responses to the survey cannot be matched with the responses to the lottery participation. The results of the survey are published in September 2026.
