As part of the 80th anniversary year of youth work in Turku, the “Faith in the Future?” exhibition by the Fendari Youth Workshop will be on display at Turku City Theatre at 6–11 October.
The anniversary year places special emphasis on highlighting young people’s voices, perspectives, and achievements. The exhibition showcases the skills and thoughts of young people through art, using a variety of techniques and materials. It is open during Turku City Theatre’s regular opening hours and admission is free of charge.
The Fendari Youth Workshop presents the talents and ideas of young people in an exhibition displayed at Turku City Theatre during the National Youth Work Week. The previous exhibition featuring socially engaged works by young people was shown at the theatre in 2023. This year’s exhibition explores faith in the future from the perspective of young people. Participants have been free to create works reflecting anything they associate with their own futures.
"Young people have many views about the future, both positive and negative. One of the strongest themes that emerges is criticism of and concern about artificial intelligence. Together with the participants, we agreed that no AI has been used in the creation of the exhibition works,” says Heikki Laukkanen, Job Coach at the Fendari Youth Workshop
The exhibition features photographs, handicrafts, furniture, and other works created by young people using a variety of techniques. In addition to the exhibition, the Library Bridge (Kirjastosilta) will be illuminated in honour of the anniversary year. A video installation created by young people for the “Youth Work in Turku 80 Years” anniversary celebrations will also be shown on the art display screen in the City Theatre Square and on the screen in the lobby of Turku Main Library.
The Fendari Youth Workshop is a coaching community for unemployed young people aged 16–28 in Turku who are not currently in employment or education. The workshop supports wellbeing, helps participants identify and develop their skills, and prepares them for further studies and working life. Through practical, hands-on activities, young people strengthen their competencies and employability skills in areas such as media and communications production, crafts, technical projects, and coaching that supports everyday life skills.
