In recent years, Turku has invested in guiding and developing event guidance in cooperation with event organisers. In 2022, a physical guidance experiment was carried out in connection with the Knotfest event, which has resulted in the Handbook for Event and Emergency Guidance, which is available on the City of Turku's event organisers' instructions pages: https://www.turku.fi/tapahtumaopastaminen (in Finnish)

The Scale-up project pilots five different smart digital guidance solutions in connection with mass events. The first experiment was carried out as part of the Kesärauha Festival 16-18.6.2023. In the experiment, pedestrians and cyclists were guided by two movable digital boards. The experiences gained from these will be utilised in the development of event guidance in the future. The next experiments are currently being planned.

As part of the measure, we will promote the improvement of digital guidance for the visually impaired. The development of guidance for the visually impaired is currently underway in cooperation with the Finnish Federation of the Visual Impairment of Southwest Finland. In the first phase, a service design process will be implemented on the matter, and in 2024, the areas raised in it will be improved in practice.

Turku's ambitious goal is to create an operating model for electronic guidance and guidance for events and exceptional situations. There is still a lot of work ahead, as the development of the electronic side requires close cooperation between several different parties and multi-channel communication.
