The event is organised by the City of Turku and Turku University of Applied Sciences.
At the start of the event, you can learn about practical tools that help you make more sustainable everyday choices. These include solutions related to home energy use and tips for choosing pleasant, environmentally friendly routes when moving around the city. They were developed through the RESPONSE project. In addition, RESPONSE mentors will share examples of environmental and energy initiatives carried out by residents in the Student Village area. You will also have the chance to play a climate-themed game.
Small-Group Dialogues on Sustainable Everyday Life
The dialogues will follow the Erätauko (Timeout) method. It is a calm and inclusive way of having meaningful conversations. The aim is to create a safe and respectful space where everyone can share their experiences and perspectives. No preparation or expertise is needed. Your own thoughts and experiences are enough. Dialogues will be fascilitated.
There will be six discussion groups in total, one of which will be conducted in English (group number 6). The others will be held in Finnish.
- How can I reduce energy use at home and lower emissions from housing? (in Finnish)
- How do everyday purchases and consumption choices affect the climate? (in Finnish)
- How do my travel choices — such as walking, cycling, taking the bus, or driving — impact climate goals? (in Finnish)
- How can we prepare for the impacts of climate change in our daily lives and in our local community? (in Finnish)
- How can neighbourhood communities and local associations support the city’s environmental and biodiversity efforts? (in Finnish)
- A discussion group in English on sustainable everyday life.
We warmly welcome you to join us for coffee and conversation as we reflect together on sustainable living in Turku!
- The City of Turku aims to become carbon neutral by 2029 and to halt biodiversity loss by 2030.
- Emissions have already decreased significantly — they are now 69% lower than in 1990.
- The work continues, and achieving these goals requires collaboration. Residents, businesses, and organisations all have an important role to play.
- At its best, climate and biodiversity action delivers multiple benefits: it makes the city more pleasant and safer, enhances health and wellbeing, strengthens community spirit, and improves the quality of everyday life.
