Exhibitions in Turku City Library’s Main Library are undergoing a transformation. There will be an annual open call for applications for exhibition space. The call for applications 2026 opens in October, but in future the call for applications always opens in September.
This change increases the transparency and equality in availability of Main Library’s spaces. It also brings more visibility to exhibitions that are an important part of library operations.
– We at the Main Library receive many inquiries about the use of our exhibition space. An open call increases transparency and equality in the use of our exhibition space while the applicants will have an equal opportunity and right to apply for an exhibition slot, Information Specialist in Library Events Suvi Kiukas explains the basis for renewed exhibition policy.
Open call for exhibition applications stresses multivocality.
Individuals, communities or teams, professional artists, amateur artists or hand-crafters and organizations show-casing their activities can all apply for an exhibition slot. The library wants to offer space especially for local people active in the cultural field and local organizations.
This open call stresses diversity and multivocality, interesting content, topicality and suitability for the library space. Exhibition selection falls to the library’s exhibition team and the applicants will be informed of the decision at the end of November.
Space reserved for exhibition use can be found in the new library buildings lobby and the 1st floor lobby in the non-fiction department. You can also organize an exhibition in one of the branch libraries by asking directly.
