Kaarle Knuutinpoika Beach invites to spend summer days in a unique setting at the mouth of the River Aura. Swimmers need to take into account the differences in water depth, the current, and the nearby boating route. The beach is not recommended for families with children.

Kaarle Knuutinpoika Beach is a reinforced recreational area with a sandy bottom. The shoreline is approximately 50 metres long and freely available for use. The beach has been reinforced with stones placed along the waterline to prevent erosion. The beach has a changing room, shower, toilet, and pier. Lifeguard supervision is provided at the beach during the summer season until 15 August.

The beach is easy to reach on foot or by bicycle and is located close to the city centre. The beach offers impressive views of Turku Castle and the harbour. In the future, an observation deck and stairs are planned in the near vicinity of the beach.

Safety at the beach

When swimming at Kaarle Knuutinpoika Beach, visitors must take passing boat traffic into account. The underwater profile of the beach differs from other beaches in Turku. The swimming area is marked with ropes, and outside the marked area there is a sudden drop-off. You can enter the water from the pier, but jumping from the pier is prohibited because of the rocky bottom and varying water depth.

Because of the water current and varying depth, swimming requires good swimming skills. Guardians should supervise children in the water within arm’s reach.

When arriving at the beach, visitors should read the safety information on the beach noticeboard about the depth profile and deep areas. The noticeboard also displays bathing water test results and blue-green algae observations regularly every two weeks. The information can also be checked in advance on the City’s webpage about beaches.
