Safer space principles for youth services
- We welcome everyone as they are.
- We respect everyone's right to self-determination and make no assumptions about anyone's characteristics, ethnic, cultural or socio-economic background, gender, sexual orientation, health or abilities.
- We respect everyone's personal space. We do not touch others without permission.
- We give everyone the opportunity to participate in discussions and we listen. We do not oppress others' opinions.
- We do not use racist or discriminatory terms or stereotypes in our speech in any situation.
- We will not embarrass anyone by words or actions. We deal with sensitive issues in a respectful manner.
- We respect everyone's privacy. We do not gossip about other people's affairs.
- We apologise if we have intentionally or unintentionally offended others. It is humane to make mistakes.
- We face new things and people with an open mind. We give everyone a chance.
- We do not tolerate bullying or unequal treatment. When we see bullying or discrimination, we intervene.
We follow the safer space principles in all activities of the youth services, for example in youth centres and Kivaloma activities. Everyone who applies for a youth card agrees to comply with the principles.
