Recording contemporary phenomena
The Turku City Museum documents contemporary phenomena, life and industry in Southwest Finland. The focus of the documentation is on recording Turku's production and its working processes.
Contemporary documentation provides information about our own time. The objects to be recorded are often rapidly changing and disappearing. Documentation is mainly done through interviews, photography and observation. Through contemporary documentation, a museum can collect new material or add to its existing collections. This information is preserved for future generations as part of a shared cultural heritage and can be used for research, publication and exhibition purposes.
Documentation and collection cooperation
TAKO is a network of professional museums. Its aim is to increase collection cooperation between museums, coordinate storage responsibilities and develop contemporary documentation and its methods. Since June 2024, the network has been operating as an association. The museums work in different thematic areas in seven pools.
In contemporary documentation, Turku City Museum is actively involved in Pools 3 (Everyday Life) and 4 (Production, Services and Working Life). The City Museum is also involved in Pool 7 (Trends, Influencers and Turning Points).
Contribute to the documentation work
In the Prikka service, Turku City Museum conducts surveys on current themes and phenomena. The museum uses the service to record memories and experiences from Southwest Finland. By answering the questionnaires, anyone can contribute to the museum's archives with memories of events of our own time.
By answering the questionnaires, users help the museum to document recent history and contemporary phenomena. The memories and experiences shared through Prikka enrich the information content of the museum's collections and provide experiential knowledge about cultural environments in Finland.
The service has been created for the people of Southwest Finland. By logging into the Prikka service, users can store their own memories and photos. The memories saved by others can be accessed without logging in. Users also have the option to mark their memories as private, so that only the museum can see them.
