Major street works are under way at the port end of Linnankatu. Access to the passenger harbour is possible only via the route running along Tukholmankatu and Pansiontie. Driving to the Port of Turku via Linnankatu will be blocked from 28 April to 18 June 2026.

Those arriving from central Turku must take the diversion route via Tukholmankatu and Pansiontie to Juhana Herttuan puistokatu and continue from there to Satamakatu. The route will be signposted starting from Koulukatu.

A route through the worksite has been arranged only for Föli buses, the public transport services of the Turku region. A designated route has also been marked for pedestrians. Cyclists can either walk their bikes past this section or follow the signs to the route passing Forum Marinum. All other traffic must use the diversion routes.

Access to Viking Line's car check-in will be guided through the worksite area. Everyone moving in the area is asked to be extra careful.

Diversion Route Signposted From the City Centre

Those travelling to the harbour should allow more time than usual for their journey. The ban on through traffic on Linnankatu also applies to charter buses.

– Understandably, the through-traffic ban will cause inconvenience for those arriving at the harbour. However, as the street work area expands, we have to restrict access via Linnankatu. This allows us to carry out the work safely, efficiently and on schedule, says Project Director Antero Mäkilä from the City of Turku.

New Traffic Arrangements Also on Pansiontie

On the same day (28 April), new traffic arrangements along Pansiontie will also come into effect. These will affect traffic arriving from the direction of Ruissalo. Tuontikatu will be closed to vehicular traffic under the Pahaniemi bridge, on the section between Tuontiväylä and Vientiväylä. This may cause occasional traffic disruption. The arrangement will remain in force until 23 August.

In connection with the closure, a temporary roundabout will be built on Pansiontie at the junctions with Vientiväylä and Tuontiväylä. Before the roundabout, traffic will be directed into a single lane.

The Harbour Area and Linnakaupunki Are Being Developed

The street construction project will improve transport connections and create the conditions needed for the development of the Port of Turku and growing traffic volumes. The area will get a new street network, pedestrian and cycling routes, and planted green areas. The aim of the project is to calm traffic around Turku Castle, open up the surroundings for shared use by residents, and integrate Linnakaupunki more closely with central Turku.

A new joint terminal is currently under construction in the harbour and is scheduled for completion in 2027. The current terminal buildings will be taken out of use, and Viking Line and Tallink Silja will move to the new joint terminal.
