In art workshops and hobby groups, you can learn more about basic pottery techniques and more. The thematic courses are varied and offer a chance to experiment with new materials and techniques.

Pottery courses for 13–28-year-olds

Pottery for Beginners

If you've always wanted to try your hand at pottery, now's your chance! The three classes of the mini-course will give you the chance to try out the basic techniques of clay work - sausage and plate techniques - based on your own ideas. In the third class, you will glaze the objects you made in the first two classes. By the end of the course, you will have an excellent foundation to continue your hobby in the open pottery workshops at Vimma.

There are 10 spots on the course. Price of the course is 15€, including materials.

Potter's Wheel

At the Potter's Wheel course, you will learn the basics of wheel throwing.During the first class, you will throw clay on the wheel. In the second class, the thrown piece is trimmed: the base of the piece is cleaned and shaped using trimming tools. In the third class, the dried and fired piece is finished by glazing. After completing the course, you can continue practicing wheel throwing during open pottery workshop.

There are 7 spots on the course. Price of the course is 15€, including materials.

Glass Fusing on Ceramics

During the class, participants will create reliefs or other decorative items from coarse clay. At the end, recycled glass shards will be added to the pieces. During firing, the glass melts and forms exciting, shimmering glass pools on the surface.

Price: €10, includes materials.

The Turku model of hobby groups for 10–15-year-olds

Vimma is part of a national project to support equal opportunities for primary and secondary school children to engage in leisure activities. The groups are aimed at children and young people in Turku.

Free snacks are provided in the hobby groups.
